    • Database transformations consist of queries and updates which are two fundamental types of computations in any databases - the first provides the capability to retrieve data and the second is used to maintain databases in light of ever-changing application domains. This dissertation aims to lay down the foundations for establishing a theoretical framework of database transformations in the context of complex-value databases. The previous findings reveal that it is very difficult to characterise common features of database queries and updates in a way which is meaningful for further investigations. Nevertheless, the advent of the sequential Abstract State Machine (ASM) thesis capturing sequential algorithms sheds light on the study of database transformations. Observing that the class of computations described by database transformations may be formalised as algorithms respecting database principles, we propose the database ASM thesis for a complete characterisation of database transformations. It turns out that every database transformation characterised by five postulates can be behaviourally simulated by a database Abstract State Machine (DB-ASM) with the same signature and background, and vice versa. Furthermore, a logic for DB-ASMs is defined. In spite of bounded non-determinism permitted by DB-ASMs, the logic is proven to be sound and complete.

      This volume contains papers presented at the first joint conference of the Software Pr- ess Workshop and the International Workshop on Software Process Simulation and Modeling (SPW/ProSim 2006) held in Shanghai, P. R. China, on May 20-21, 2006. The theme of SPW/ProSim 2006 was “Software Process Change – Meeting the Challenge.” Software developers are under ever-increasing pressure to deliver their products more quickly and with higher levels of quality. These demands are set in a dynamic context of frequently changing technologies, limited resources and globally distributed development teams. At the same time, global competition is forcing - ganizations that develop software to cut costs by rationalizing processes, outsourcing part or all of their activities, reusing existing software in new or modified applications and evolving existing systems to meet new needs, while still minimizing the risk of projects failing to deliver. To address these difficulties, new or modified processes are emerging, including agile methods and plan-based product line development. Open Source, COTS and community-developed software are becoming more popular. Outsourcing coupled with 24/7 development demands well-defined processes and interfaces to support the coordination of organizationally and geographically separated teams. All of these challenges combine to increase demands on the efficiency and effectiveness of so- ware processes.

    • Bergwerke und Bergleute haben Stadte und Umland verandert und beispielsweise dem Ruhrgebiet einen eigenen Charakter verliehen. Stadt und Bergwerk entwickelten sich gemeinsam, teilten uber Generationen Hohen und Tiefen ihrer Geschichte, beeinflussten das stadtische Leben und waren integraler Bestandteil der Region. Mit der dauerhaften Einstellung von Steinkohlenbergwerken geht die uber 100-jahrige Geschichte des deutschen Steinkohlenbergbaus zu Ende. Seit sich zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts in Deutschland die Idee durchgesetzt hatte, wichtige Zeugnisse der Naturwissenschaft und Technik offentlich zuganglich zu machen, spielte der Bergbau als eine der wichtigsten Industrien eine herausragende Rolle in diesen Museen. Die noch junge Konzeption des Industriemuseums beschaftigt sich sowohl mit der Technik-, Sozial- und Regionalgeschichte, als auch mit der damit verbundenen Kulturgeschichte. Die Musealisierung scheint das geeignete Mittel zu sein, Traditionen in einem sich wandelnden gesellschaftlichen Leben aufrecht zu erhalten. In der hier vorliegenden Arbeit wird folgenden Fragen nachgegangen: * Was ist der eigentliche Grund fur die Musealisierung? * Welche Ziele haben wissenschaftliche Museen? * Sind solche Museen Produkte der Politik und wie erfullen sie politische, gesellschaftliche und kulturelle Aufgaben?

    • In Antwort auf Chinas Initiative "Ein Gürtel und eine Straße" dokumentiert das Buch das Leben der Uighuren in Xinjiang, beginnend mit der Seidenstraße. Es beleuchtet das lokale Leben, verankert in der Heimatstadt, und thematisiert die Seidenstraße und ihre Geschichte. Sechs Kapitel präsentieren die Vergangenheit und Gegenwart der Seidenstraße durch prosaische Texte und 100 Bilder mit kurzen Untertiteln. Diese Bilder zeigen die Geschichte, Natur und historischen Städte wie Turpan, das glückliche Leben der Kinder, Hochzeitsbräuche und das kulturelle Erbe entlang der Seidenstraße. Wang Qing, ein unabhängiger Fotograf, geboren 1975, arbeitet seit 1990 in Film und Fotografie und begann 2006 mit Digitalfotografie. Er studierte an der Pekinger Filmakademie und hat zahlreiche Fotos zur Seidenstraßenkultur sowie zum Alltagsleben der Uighuren gemacht. Seine thematischen Serien wie "Lebensechos" und "Daoisten" wurden in verschiedenen Zeitungen und Magazinen veröffentlicht, darunter die New York Times. Wang hat mehrere Preise gewonnen, darunter den Literaturpreis des 8. Humanity-Fotopreises und Auszeichnungen beim Internationalen Pingyao-Foto-Festival. Seine Werke wurden weltweit ausgestellt, unter anderem in New York. Die Reihe "Chinesische Zeitdokumente" bietet eine unverfälschte, aktuelle Sicht der chinesischen Regierung, gefördert durch staatliche Mittel.

      Tabus und ihre Literarisierung um 1800: Lessing, Kleist und Goethe

      „Die Aufklärung zerstört Tabus, aber sie ist ihrerseits auch ein Biotop für Tabus.“ Um 1800 verläuft ein Tabuisierungsprozess parallel zur Aufklärung, insbesondere in Bezug auf Sexualität. Diese Arbeit untersucht das Zusammenspiel von Tabuisierung und Aufklärung in der Literatur dieser Zeit anhand von Lessings „Emilia Galotti“, Kleists „Erdbeben in Chili“ und „Die Marquise von O ...“, sowie Goethes „Stella“ und „Die Wahlverwandtschaften“. Es werden verschiedene Tabus thematisiert: der Verlust der weiblichen Unschuld in „Emilia Galotti“ und „Die Marquise von O ...“, voreheliche Sexualität und Schwangerschaft in „Das Erdbeben in Chili“ sowie freier Liebesaustausch und Ehebruch in „Stella“ und „Die Wahlverwandtschaften“. Die Analyse zeigt, dass Lessings Werk polemisch auf eine Zerstörung des Tabus abzielt, es als Hindernis für die Aufklärung und als inhumane Facette des neuen bürgerlichen Moralsystems inszeniert. Kleist hingegen offenbart mit grotesker Ironie die paradoxe Struktur des Tabus und dessen zugrunde liegende Werte, was einer Dekonstruktion gleichkommt. Goethes Werke können als Versuch der Tabu-Rekonstruktion interpretiert werden, wobei dem Tabu ein moralischer Wert zugeschrieben wird, jedoch nicht ohne kritische Vorbehalte und bittere Ironie.
