Maggiori informazioni sul libro

This is the story of Dutch Carmelite saint Fr. Titus Brandsma, who was martyred in the Dachau concentration camp for opposing Nazism. As a professor at the Catholic University of Nijmegen, he warned about the dangers of National Socialism and its conflict with Catholic teachings even before World War II began. In January 1942, as a journalist and ecclesiastical advisor, he traveled across the Netherlands advising Catholic newspapers against publishing Nazi propaganda. Arrested on January 19, he endured a harrowing journey through various Nazi prisons, ultimately ending up in Dachau, where he was one of thousands of clergy imprisoned. Fr. Brandsma died from a lethal injection in the prison hospital on July 26, 1942. The Catholic Church recognizes him as a martyr, the first from the Nazi era, and he is honored by journalists worldwide. In 2005, Nijmegen citizens named him the town's greatest citizen. Brandsma is also celebrated for establishing Catholic schools in the Netherlands and advocating for Jewish students against Nazi policies. His contributions to translating and publishing spiritual works into Dutch and promoting ecumenism were vital in revitalizing the Church in the Netherlands. His scholarly legacy laid the groundwork for the Titus Brandsma Institute at Radboud University.
