Libanonský spisovatel a malíř Chalíl Džibrán (1883–1931) proslul svojí snahou s filozofickou hloubkou a poetickým stylem odhalit tajemství základních lidských hodnot. I v řadě podobenství a zpěvů sebraných pod názvem „Slzy a úsměv“ vyvstává před námi Džibránův svět, proniknutý hlubokým sociálním cítěním, láskou k člověku, k životu, k Bohu.

Nejslavnější z děl oblíbeného libanonského spisovatele a malíře. Básnické prózy významného libanonského spisovatele a malíře Chalíla Džibrána jsou dnes už proslaveným poselstvím moudrosti a lásky. Džibrán původně zamýšlel napsat trilogii (Prorok, 1923; Zahrada prorokova, 1933; a Smrt prorokova). V úvodní části mladý prorok Mustafa promlouvá o všem podstatném mezi zrozením a smrtí. Ve druhém, ne zcela dokončeném oddíle Mustafa učí v zahradě své matky devět žáků. Ze zamýšlené třetí části se bohužel zachovalo jen několik náčrtů. Lyrická próza Prorok (The Prophet) od Chalíla Džibrána je jedným z najpôvabnejších a najčítanejších klenotov svetovej literatúry. Anglická verzia uzrela svetlo sveta v jeseni 1923 v Kostole svätého Marka v New Yorku, kde ju autor sám predniesol. Súčasťou tohto vydania je aj Prorokova záhrada(The Garden of Prophet) z roku 1933. Autor majstrovsky prebásnil posolstvo Biblie modernému človeku, lebo ako hovorí Mustafa, vyvolený a osvietený v Prorokovi, „Boh nestrpí, aby bol pred človekom ukrytý, ani aby Jeho slovo ležalo ukryté v priepasti ľudského srdca.“

Známý libanonský autor Chalíl Džibrán (1883–1931) svým nezaměnitelným, poetic­ko-mystickým rukopisem oživuje osobnost Ježíše Nazaretského. Ve své knize se snaží podívat na postavu Bohočlověka očima těch, kteří se s ním setkali a kteří vydávají svá nejrůznější svědectví o jeho životě. V jednotlivých kapitolách o něm vyprávějí jeho učed­níci, následovníci, ženy, aristokraté, učenci, kupci, ale i oponenti a nepřátelé, v jejichž vzpomínkách probleskují novozákonní zprávy a výroky. Vyprávění jednotlivých postav se však Džibránovi stávají především prostorem pro vlastní úvahy, v nichž se nejen vyznává z niterného vztahu k Synu člověka, ale také rozjímá o mnoha věčných tématech lidského života.
