Launched in 1969 with the 150bhp fuel-injected TR5 engine, it was given a softer tune early in 1973 and the car undoubtedly had sacrificed some of its original performance for the sake of greater refinement. In the USA, traditionally Triumph’s best market for its TR range, Triumph’s engineers were unable to make the fuel- injected engine meet the new exhaust emission standards, and as a result had to fit a twin-carburetor engine with only 104bhp into Federal TR6s, making the cars no faster than their TR4 ancestors. Nevertheless, it was by far the most successful TR before the TR7, with nearly 95,000 built.

Datsun's initial offerings were fairly conventional family cars, but with the introduction of the 240Z in 1969 the marque's image received a massive boost. It was a runaway success, outselling every European sports car model in the lucrative North American market. The 280Z arrived in 1975 followed by the 280ZX in 1978 and sales of the 280ZX had reached over 446,000 units by the time production came to an end in 1983. 44 international articles include road, track and comparison tests, a service guide plus full technical and performance data.

Seeking a product which would sell, the Daimler management hit upon the idea of a sports car which would emulate the success of MG, Triumph, Austin-Healey and Jaguar in the USA. To keep costs down, it would have a fiber-glass body shell and a V8 engine. Though the SP250 sold well, it was never a huge success. The company was bought out by Jaguar in 1960 and the SP250 remained in production until 1964. The Daimler V8 engine was launched in the Jaguar Mk. II. This book contains 60 international articles including road and comparison tests, comparisons and a buying guide.

Caterham's success was due, initially, to Colin Chapman’s inspired design and post ‘74 to Graham Nearn’s brilliant development. In common with several other small UK car companies in recent times, Caterham has also gone through a number of ownership changes which has had an effect on the type of models produced and the Caterham Seven arguably reached its peak with the introduction of the ‘R’ Series. This book covers the story of an exciting new generation of Caterham Seven models over a decade which saw the cars achieve speeds and levels of sophistication that Colin Chapman could surely never have dreamed of.
