The people of Nigeria face a battle which has been experienced by many nations throughout time– the fight to change strong cultural traditions that block growth and stagnate civilisation.Another Poor Cow is a tragic representation of the waste and loss caused by the traditional views of a rural community. Little Onaiwu is a beautiful and intelligent girl with a bright future ahead, if only she can fight the familiar hold upon women by her society. However, it is not to be and what follows is a vivid and distressing example of the realities of life for many women in Nigeria and Africa as a whole, as she is married off to the local chief who is as old as her father and already has a harem of several wives. Uncomfortable with this way of life and in efforts to expand her horizons, she falls into the hands of human traffickers who subject her to sex slavery, her excruciating experiences made worse by the many stubborn, cultural obstacles that come under the brutal and all-encompassing banner of tradition.
