Maxx is a homeless man living in a cardboard box who sees himself as a classic superhero. He is aided by Julie Winters, a freelance social worker. Maxx occasionally slips into another world known as "The Outback." There, he is a true hero, rescuing Julie from strange monsters and his arch-nemesis, Mr. Gone. However, Mr. Gone is the only one who remembers his journeys between the real world and The Outback, holding the key to both Julie's and Maxx's secrets.
