Enduring lessons from the desert soundscapes that shaped the Christian monastic tradition. For the hermits and communal monks of antiquity, the desert was a refuge from the noise of everyday life, allowing them to hear and contemplate the voice of God. Through personal experiences of field recordings in the deserts of North America and Israel, she reveals that mountains, canyons, caves, and oases are deeply resonant environments. The desert emerges as a place of paradox, simultaneously silent and noisy, fostering contemplative isolation while nurturing vibrant communities of seekers.
