The publication "Beautiful Failures," featuring texts by Roger Paez and Stella Rahola Matutes, leaders of the "Effects and Emotions" unit for the Master in Ephemeral Architecture and Temporary Spaces (MEATS) at ELISAVA (UVic-UCC), includes photography by Alba Yruela, Noelia Failde, and Ardila, with graphic design by Valentina Pulian. It documents an intervention presented at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in May 2021. This site-specific project explores fragility and vulnerability through two delicate materials used in the pavilion's construction: glass and travertine. Seventeen travertine slabs were lifted, creating voids that expose the underlying structure. Surrounding these voids are discarded glass pieces salvaged from artisan workshops in Barcelona, organized into seventeen families based on their shapes. The resulting landscape, reminiscent of an archaeological excavation, symbolizes a ritual of burial and revelation. This temporary intervention embodies a cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, with each element playing a crucial role—from the pavilion's history as a living entity to the life force inherent in each glass piece.
