Maggiori informazioni sul libro

In the autumn of 1943, life becomes perilous for Italian Jews like the Mazin family. With Nazi Germany occupying Italy, Antonina Mazin faces the threat of imprisonment and deportation. Her only hope for survival is to leave Venice and hide in the countryside with Nico Gerardi, a man she has just met. Nico, forced to leave the seminary to run his family's farm, is a moral man who cannot stand idly by as innocent lives are taken. To evade danger, Nina poses as his new bride, and they must convince others that they are happily married. However, farm life proves challenging for Nina, a cultured city girl aspiring to be a doctor, as she navigates the suspicions of Nico's provincial neighbors. Their distrust is compounded by a local Nazi official with a vendetta against Nico, whose growing suspicions threaten their safety. As Nina and Nico get to know one another, their relationship deepens, evolving into something more profound than a mere charade. Yet, with each passing day, they fear the looming possibility of being torn apart, as the dangers surrounding them intensify.
