Maggiori informazioni sul libro

Jeremy Gardiner has dedicated the past five years to exploring Britain's south coast, resulting in a new body of work showcased in this book and an accompanying exhibition. His inspiration stems from the natural world, as well as from popular depictions of coastal landscapes found in travel posters, guidebooks, postcards, and ViewMaster reels. Gardiner's art reflects a profound interest in the geology of landscapes and the influence of natural forces. He incorporates small man-made features like lighthouses and cottages, highlighting the recent and minor impact of humanity on the vastness of nature. His technique involves layering colors through paint accretions, collaging, scouring, and sanding, aiming to replicate the geological effects on the terrain. This fully illustrated volume presents recent paintings on panel and paper, documenting Gardiner's expeditions from north Devon to Kent. Accompanying the artwork are five essays by Andrew Lambirth, Christiana Payne, Judith LeGrove, Gill Saunders, and Steve Marshall, which contextualize Gardiner's work within contemporary and historical coastal painting, as well as the art of posters and popular guides. The exhibition will be held at St Barbe Gallery in Lymington, The Nine British Art in London, and Falmouth Art Gallery.
