Maggiori informazioni sul libro

Every nation has narratives about its history, often containing misleading mythologies that lead to significant consequences. For Israel and its ally, the United States, a central myth is that "the Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity," a statement by Israeli diplomat Abba Eban in 1973. However, the historical truth suggests that it is Israel and the U.S. that have frequently overlooked or rejected opportunities for fair compromise in the Arab-Israeli and Israeli-Palestinian conflicts. This book reexamines the conflict's history from the end of WWI to the present. Part I reevaluates Zionism and explores the origins and early years of the Arab-Israeli state conflict, including a chapter on the reasons for the U.S.'s nearly unconditional support for Israel. Part II discusses war and peace in the Arab-Israeli conflict from 1948 onward, arguing that major wars in 1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973 could have been avoided. It also analyzes the Cold War's influence on the conflict. Part III delves into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict's history from 1917 to today, assessing the prospects for a two-state solution or other resolutions.
