This study explores the self-selection of potential migrants, focusing on how risk and time preferences influence migration decisions. Using data from the Gallup World Poll and the Global Preference Survey across 70 countries, it finds that potential migrants tend to be more risk-taking and patient than stayers. Social preferences like trust also play a role. Further research is needed.
