The book explores the historical association between diabetes and myxedema, highlighting its prevalence in females and the elderly due to improved thyroid exploration methods. It discusses the rarity of primary hypothyroidism cases in Africa before 1960 and presents findings of abnormal glucose tolerance in three non-insulin dependent diabetes cases, two of which were diagnosed through classic symptoms. Notably, one case of diabetes preceded the onset of hypothyroidism by five years, discovered incidentally during treatment for an unrelated condition.
