These moʻolelo from Kekaha Wai ʻOle O Nā Kona detail hundreds of wahi pana (storied sites) and include extensive listings of moon phases, calendrics, counting methods, and plant names, making it a rich repository of local knowledge and cultural traditions. Starting on September 13, 1923, a series of articles titled Na Hoonanea o ka Manawa was published weekly in the Hawaiian-language newspaper Ka Hoku o Hawaii until August 28, 1924. The author, J. W. H. Isaac Kihe, writing as Ka ʻOhu Haʻaheo I Nā Kuahiwi ʻEkolu, was a dedicated contributor who aimed to preserve the cultural knowledge and practices of his homeland. By documenting this information, he sought to prevent its loss and provide a vital resource for his contemporaries and future generations.
