Sport and International Understanding

Proceedings of the Congress Held in Helsinki, Finland, July 7–10, 1982

Maggiori informazioni sul libro

In recent years, concerns about preserving world peace have grown alongside a significant increase in international sporting activities, creating more opportunities for advancing understanding and peace. This context led to the convening of a Congress on Sport and International Understanding, inspired by discussions from the 1975 Helsinki Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe. The Congress took place at Finlandia Hall, under the auspices of the International Council of Sport and Physical Education (ICSPE), organized by Finnish entities including the Finnish Society for Research in Sport and Physical Education, the Finnish Central Sport Federation (SVUL), and the Workers' Sport Federation (TUL). The Congress aimed to analyze sport's role in fostering international understanding and to encourage research in this area. It also provided a platform for researchers and sports practitioners to exchange ideas on relevant themes. Key questions addressed included the forms of international cooperation in contemporary competitive and top-level sports, the concept of sports for all, and the historical context and future of these initiatives.
